Summary:

Ichigo is out on a date with her crush when suddenly she's involved in an odd incident in which her DNA is merged with the DNA of an almost extinct wildcat. When four other girls' DNA is merged with the DNA of four other almost extinct animals, it's apparent that they're part of a much bigger plan. Ichigo and her friends have been chosen to become a part of a secret project called the "Mew Project." Their mission: To protect the planet from aliens who are using the planet's animals to attack humans.

My Opinion:

I first came in contact with the Tokyo Mew Mew anime, when it aired on Dutch television (poorly dubbed). I was a bit younger back then, so I liked basically every animation show. When the show got cancelled, I continued watching it online in Japanese, with English subtitles (much better!). Afterwards, I bougt the first manga volume from my local bookstore. The story of Tokyo Mew Mew it not very original. It's a typical shoujo story, about common teen girl who all of a sudden become superheroes with superpowers, to fight 'evil'. But it's still fun and easy to read on a sunny spring day or so. The artwork is great though, and very bold. There is not may story progress of character progress, which is a shame.

Conclusion:

It may not be the most original shoujo story ever, Tokyo Mew Mew is still fun to read. The artwork is great. If you're into shoujo, I can recommend it.
