Summary:

Hannah Shah is an Imam's daughter. She lived the life of a Muslim but, for many years, her father abused her in the cellar of their home.

At 16 she discovered a plan to send her to Pakistan for an arranged marriage, and she ran away. Hunted by her angry father and brothers, who were determined to make her an honour killing, she had to keep moving house to escape them. Then, worst of all, in her family's eyes, she became a Christian. Some Muslims say converting from Islam is punishable by death...One day a mob of forty men came after her, armed with hammers, sticks and knives... with her father at the front...

The Imam's Daughter is a true story.

My Opinion:

First of all, it must have been very hard to put this story onto paper. From an early age, poor Hannah is the victim of abuse by her father, while her family pretends it isn't happening. In the way Hannah writes, you can almost feel what it's like to be trapped and abused. It gave me chills. Whet Hannah is 16 and she gets help to escape, it isn't the end of the story. Hannah has to be on the run for her family the rest of her life. From that point, the story becomes really tensive. Espacially when she desides to become a Christian. The book isnt't anti-Muslim or anti-Pakistani, but just agianst certain people, which is a good thing. It only took my two afternoons to read this book, and it isn't very hard to read. The tension makes it a page-turner.

Conclusion:

I don't want to put to many words here. The story is thrilling, but aso full of love. If you like story's about diffrent cultures, go read it. If you're not into cultureshocks, go read it anyway, because the book is certainly worth it. If only to encourage Hannah, and all other girls and women in this world who are being oppresed by their family's or community's.
